In 2003 Biodico (then Biodiesel Industries) developed a 3 mmgpy biodiesel production facility with industrial mining partners in Australia. The mining industry uses lots of diesel in a wide variety of equipment and health concerns can be substantial. Workers in confined or dug out areas may face significant exposure to the exhaust from diesel equipment.
The use of biodiesel can greatly alleviate these problems. Biodico’s partners at Biodiesel Industries of Australia (BIA) also shared the vision of an emerging renewable energy industry in Australia. BIA was the first commercial biodiesel production facility in Australia and remains one of Australia’s most successful and influential biodiesel production operations.
Several years after opening, BIA expanded their production capacity from 3 mmgpy to 10 mmgpy. BIA, like all of Biodico’s MPUs, is full spectrum feedstock capable and can produce fuel from any lipid source. BIA operates rendering facilities throughout New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria and uses a lot of recycled cooking oil to transform waste into energy.
